The average child spends 7 hours a day on screens. That is not a typo. And while some screen time is fine, most parents agree it is too much. The problem is not that kids love screens. It is that parents run out of alternatives.

Here are 50 screen-free activities organized by type, age, and situation. Bookmark this page. You are going to need it.

How to Make Activities Stick

The key to screen-free success is planning ahead:

  • Rotate activities: Kids get bored with the same thing. Rotate weekly.
  • Prep supplies: Having art supplies, games, and outdoor toys ready prevents default screen time
  • Create a menu: Let kids choose from a list of options instead of saying “go play”
  • Join them: Kids are more engaged when parents participate (even for 10 minutes)
  • Limit transitions: Once they are engaged, do not interrupt

Plan Activities for the Whole Week

The best way to reduce screen time is to have a plan before the “I am bored” starts. I created a Kids Activity Planner in Notion that organizes activities by type (indoor, outdoor, educational, creative), includes age-appropriate suggestions, tracks which activities are favorites, and lets you plan the whole week in advance.

No more scrambling for ideas at 3 PM on a rainy Saturday.
